I leased my e-Golf 2 years ago and am about to reach 20K miles within a month. Actually, my car is chiming that I need to maintenance when I get off.

I read several discussions in the forum regarding 20K service. But I'm not still clear whether this is mandatory:

- Is this 20K maintenance mandatory? I will return this car in Sep 2019.

- If mandatory, what happens if I don't do the maintenance? Do I get any penalty or charge at the time of lease termination?

My car has no problem so far. I rotated tires and changed cabin filters. :D

Read your lease agreement. It says something to the extent of "lessee is responsible for maintenance". That being said, when I had my lease inspection, it seemed to only be a visual and basic functionality check. There was no verification of maintenance records.
