Hello all,

New to this forum so hopefully don’t seem like to much of a noob with this car

So I will be taking delivery of my 2017 Volkswagen e golf come November 14th . It’s a Canadian spec one and is the SEL with tech package so it ha the larger touchscreen with navigation. I have two questions hoping you may be able to help me with

1) I am an audiophile and can’t stand my music without some sort of bass or subwoofer . Now I know it comes standard with I believe a 12 speaker system but I am looking to add some more bass . I checked it out and the factory option subwoofer does not work on the new Volkswagen e golfs . So what I am wondering is does anyone know where they hide the factory subwoofer that is already in the car and also what is the output of the amp . How many watts does it put out . I was thinking of building a subwoofer box in the false floor with a set of 6.5” subwoofers low power with a t line style box . I want to stick within the stock specs so I am not over heating the factory amp so .

2) I know my car comes with available Volkswagen connect or car apps . I was told this function does not work in Canada though which is a huge let down . Does anyone know if there is a way to trick it to think the car is in the states so I can download the app on my iPhone and use it . The issue is with winter being so cold here I want to set a timer that the car will pre heat the cabin and the windshield so wen I go to leave it’s nice and toasty.

Thanks everyone for your help and sorry if I was to wordy

I believe you will find that the timer can be configured from the VW website.
In fact I find it easier and more reliable using the website rather than the smartphone app.

The subwoofer conversation has come up a couple times before, but I haven't seen anyone do a modification or swap. Most of the 2015-2016 models are leased which plays a role, but they other might be since the e-Golf's infotainment system and trunk are unique, the normal process for the ICE versions of the MK7 Golf may not work.

IMO the stock speakers give very good sound, and unless you're looking to rattle windows or feel the bass in your chest, the modification, even if possible, may not be worth it.

FYI the cargo area below the false floor on the eGolfs isn't very deep; it's barely deep enough to hold a donut spare (which I took off my Alltrack). I'm not an expert in subwoofer building but I'm letting you know in case.

Hey Gents,

Thanks for the response on this . So can you tell me does the website allow for more than just charging timers ? like can you pre-heat the interior and turn on the defrost and such for winter?

As for the audio i didn't really want to mess with the factory headunit or tap into the wires and put a big amp and all that ( did that with my last car Smart electric drive had a big 15" subwoofer and about 20 speakers yes in a smart car ) . just wanted to add a little more bass to the mix . i really wanted to figure out where the factory subwoofer was and just basically figure out the specs and match them but put a better driver and more low end into it without going to crazy . the reason i wanted to go with two 6.5" shallow subwoofer was because i can get the quality and also the bass while keeping in the factory "watts" specs without over running the amplifer . I just don't know what the rating is or where they hide the subwoofer in the new E-Golf and can't find to much info when i looked online .

I believe you can't use the website as it uses the same technology to communicate with the car as the app.

Everything will have to be programmed from the infotainment.

I saw a picture of an eGolf with some subs in the trunk, but I can't remember the thread.

does anyone know if it works or doesn't in Canada ?

also anyone know the specs still can't seem to find any on it .

2 - My understanding is that VW Carnet does not work in Canada because they have not been able to secure a reasonable deal with cellular providers as the technology relies on this.

1 - Subwoofer, VW says it’s not compatible but my extensive research says it might work. Seems the sub will fit with floor at highest level but you will not be able to use the lower level. In any case I ordered one and will have it by this week end. I’ll let you know if it works.

Well sub is in and fits perfect. Takes about 1-1/2 hrs to install, it fits just below the board when it’s in the highest position.

Can’t figure out how to post pictures on this board
You need to host the images somewhere. When Photobucket started charging for this kind of hosting, I moved all my images to imgbb.com. That site provides an already formed IMG BB code to paste into this site.
