Limit max charging default w/o having to create profile

Anyone have any idea if it is possible to just limit the default max charging across the board without having to create a profile? I'd just like to be able to plug in and charge anytime but have it limit to 80%, unfortunately I cannot seem to find a way to change this unless I create a profile, set a time, etc etc I am unable to pick a set time for charging as it is always different. Thanks for any help!

The software in the car is different between US e-Golf cars for 2015 and 2016 model years. Which do you have?

I have tried and verified that our 2015 LE does charge only up to the Max Charge Level when using the timer and charging profile. The only way I can think of to get it to use the Max Charge Level all the time is to set it in the default profile and turn off the timers. However, it may not observe the location profile at all when it is set to charge immediately.

There is a very good chance that the car won't do what you want. You just have to try it in every combination you can think of.
 
Whoops sorry it is a 2015 LE, I had a feeling it might not, I'm just always charging in different places at different times but usually don't need to max out range so was hoping to save the battery the best I could. Thank you very much for the suggestions.

It's a clunky workaround, but mine is to note (from either the dash display or CarNet) how long it will take to charge fully, and subtract 90 minutes from that. Then I set a timer on my smartphone to remind me to turn off charging remotely. That seems to get me to around the 80% mark.

Annoying, but that's the only way I know of to do this. BTW the eGolf is not unique with this annoying (lack of) feature: starting in 2014, Nissan removed the 80% setting from Leafs sold in the US and Canada, but left that feature for other markets. It's believed that Nissan did this to get a higher EPA range ratinge: the range jumped from 75 miles to 84 between the 2013 and 2014 model years despite no change in battery size. With the 80% setting enabled, the EPA was using an average of that and the 100% setting for its rating.
 
When charging at home with 240V and 30 amps, I plug the car in, and immediately go to carnet and log in. I take a screen shot, with the estimated time it will be complete. I generally take the car off 10-15 minutes before that time occurs. That should get you somewhere close to 80-85% SOC. Pretty much every 8.5 minutes gets you a Kwh of charge. The last 10 minutes will get you 0.5 kwh, 10 minutes prior to that will get you about 0.8 kwh. So the last 20 minutes might get you 1.3 kw. Figure 8 minutes per kwh before that. Figure about 20-30 minutes less than what the Carnet app shows you for completion time when you take a screen shot.
 
From your car's dashboard, press "Car", "e-manager", "Basic settings", "Minimum battery charge level". Set this to 80% .

Press the back arrow and set the departure time for 5:00 AM for every day of the week at the "Standard" location. Set the "Max battery charge level" to 90%.

Now, when you plug in your car, it will immediately charge to 80%.

This works at least for my 2016 egolf SE.
 
If you want 80% all the time, and never ever have it charge above 80% unless you explicitly tell it to by pressing the "charge now" button:

Set your minimum charge to 80%
Set one departure timer for literally any day and time (it doesn't matter), and set the maximum charge to 80%.

Now you can forget about it and your car will never ever charge above 80% unless you tell it to. Works great for me!

Vehicle menu > e-Manager.

You can change all the charge settings in-car in 2016+ models.

You can only choose 10% increments though so you would pick 100%. (100% is probably more like 90% real state of charge so it’s ok to charge to 100% when you do need the full range. Just don’t leave it at 100% for extended periods :)
