Last I heard, the Digital Cockpit instrument panel will only be available on US e-Golf with SEL trim and the Driver Assistance Package. So, basically, only the most expensive configuration will get it.

The updated infotainment should have a native USB port, not the lame US MDI connector. European infotainment systems in the e-Golf have had USB since introduction in 2014 (MY 2015).

US-market Golfs have had USB (and CarPlay/Android Auto) since model year 2016. However over at sister brand Audi, for some reason they still insist on using MMI; the 2016 A3 I rented a few months back had a USB port but it was for "charging only" and you needed an MMI cable (which as a rental it didn't have) or else Bluetooth to get your device to play over the sound system.

I'm not a fan of the "virtual dash." If that thing goes bad (and it will, because Volkswagen), you're screwed.
