I've had this car for over a month now, it's fun enough I'm already over the lease mileage allotment. I was thinking I would not mind a more performance oriented version of this car. Tesla's Model 3 orders, plus D models and "ludicrous" mode seems to indicate there is a market - why wouldn't VW jump in? I know for a lot of folks here that's heresy (electrical = maximizing savings), but this little thing has potential.
With a slightly bigger battery (like 2017 model or even a little more), I could see a "GT-Electric" version. A couple body tweaks GTI style, more buckety seats up front, slightly stiffer suspension, wider and grippier tires for better cornering and especially better braking (Jeeeesus, those tires are not very good under braking). Nicer wheels would be good, savings be damned, they're an eyesore but I understand the reason they're on. The Torque off the line is good, but an extra 30% sounds doable, bringing it in line with a GTI... Not sure what we could do with horse power short of a bigger electric motor or better yet a second motor out back, the 40-80 mph acceleration right now is nowhere near as impressive as 0-40. Sure the mileage would drop significantly but as long as it can still do 50-60 miles reliably, I'd buy one...
I think it would still come under the running costs of a GTI... (but not purchase). Like a Tesla 3 competitor with possibly less range...
As a side note my Clipper creek charger arrived and my 10-12KW daily charge went from 11h on the 110V Factory charger to 3h30 ! Awesome !
