One of the things that bugged me the second I started using this car is that the USB port is under a door flap but there is no channel for the cable to exit through the door, so you have to keep the door open when you're plugged in. I was planning to take a Dremel to the door and make my own channel when I found these flat USB cables. They are so thin you can easily close the door with the cable plugged in. I thought others would be interested in this too so I'm posting the link.

This is for the USB-C version - https://amzn.to/2lCeY3Q
This is the Micro USB version- https://amzn.to/2lDbYEk

I have the USB-C version and tested it with a fast charger and my phone was able to receive a fast charge with it. I did not test data transfer speeds, I'm only using this in the car so irrelevant to me. On that note, I'm annoyed that the USB port in the car isn't a fast charging port, that would add almost no cost to the car. Bleh.

The same company doesn't make a lightning cable but Monoprice does and they are a solid brand, here is the link for that one - https://amzn.to/2lDWU9x. This one also comes in a 6' version if you want something longer.

You sound very unhappy with your e-Golf? Are you just a whiny troll, or why didn't you check all this stuff out before you bought the damn car and started whining and grousing about everything that's wrong with your e-Golf. Maybe it's everything that's wrong with you and your expectations. Caveat emptor, before you spend your money. Do your own due diligence.

These are also fantastic! Hard to find in stock, since the dude who makes them isn't able to keep up with demand, but I managed to get one and it's wonderful. I slide my iPhone into the dock when I get in the car, and pull it out when I get out of the car.

If you have a small phone (iPhone SE to iPhone 8 (with a thin case only) you can shut the hatch door with the phone inside. With larger phones, the flap does have to stay open, but at least there's no cords going everywhere.

Obviously it means you can't pick up the phone and use it while driving, but that's kind of the point of CarPlay/Android Auto!

I don't mind having the access door open, gives me a place to put the phone and with Apple CarPlay it locks out using the iphone itself once connected.

What are "these"? I'm guessing you intended to post a link and forgot?

I just got a retractable USB cable like this one:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00M4QAQI4/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I open my flap; *gently* retract the cable, plug in my phone.
At end of trip I rip out my phone, and *gently* let the cable go back in its holder and shut the flap.

Downsides (as the cable's only .6 meters):
You can't put the phone on the seat
You can't have a passenger fiddle with your phone

YMMV
