I'm watching this topic with interest after a recent power outage in SoCal.

Is there a clear upper limit to how much power the battery can provide? I've seen a few comments about 1000 - 1500W inverters... is 2kW a possibility? I have a heat pump (ductless mini-split) system for my house and would love to be able to heat my house during the next power outage.

That much power might work, but it's not advisable and the running time would be relatively short from the e-Golf's relatively small traction battery. It's much more reasonable to keep a natural gas forced air furnace, refrigerator, etc. running than a mini-split in heating mode.

The limit is the 12V regulator the eGolf has in place of an alternator. I never found specs for it, and the limits I have tested are in this thread.

I've been looking into the feasibility of a 220V inverter with the hope of being able to rum my well pump. Does anyone have any input on that? We measured the draw and we read 7.3 then dropped to 6.8. I would imagine the actual starting draw was higher, but was our high reading.

I will add that when I check a cars charging system I hook my load tester to the battery and apply a load that will draw the voltage down into the eleven volt range. So at that point the alternator is delivering all it is designed to do and then dipping into the battery. I don't believe short bursts like this harm anything this is the way it is designed to work.
