Did not see anything on that topic in Belgium. My dealer does not know about that range increasing. However, they said (not officially) that a manufacturing plant is being created in germany just to produce battery - instead of buying from third-party - and should be a joint-venture with Tesla?
VW has not announced who the partner will be for manufacturing battery cells. The names that are floating around are LG, Samsung SDI, and Panasonic. The current e-Golf cells are made by Panasonic. The press releases and coverage I've seen are vague enough that they could continue buying cells from outside factories and just build the variety of battery packs they need for their various cars. This is the approach Daimler is taking - they decided that it didn't make sense to make the actual battery cells, so they sold off that business and are focusing on the integration and manufacturing of packs for all their upcoming electrified models.
