    loud, vibrating heat pump

The noise came back. I took to the dealer, they said it was because refrigerant was low. It turns out it uses refrigerant to cool the heat pump when it works hard. When refrigerant is low, the fan has to work harder to cool it. So they topped up the refrigerant and the noise level is more normal...

    Charging battery in cold weather?

If cabin heating drains so much energy it got me thinking that they should have a seperate heating system that burns fossil fuel such as kerosene or even gasoline just for heating. As burning oil for heating is much more efficient than electrical as energy density of oil is 10x that of battery...

    Charging battery in cold weather?

It's not just cabin heating. It uses less than 5kW even at peak. Average should be 3 kW if you have heatpump. This is -15C here last week in Ontario Canada Majority of range loss is from battery losing efficiency at cold temperature. Even if I turn off climate control with "OFF" button, the...

    7 kWh/h heating usage in -20C

Which is simply kW as h/h cancels out. But our e-Golf designer thinks it's better to leave it as kWh/h in the instrument center display. If you select Economy in the display, it shows the kWh/100km when car is moving, but when car is at stop, or parked, the unit changes to kWh/h (or simply kW)...

    loud, vibrating heat pump

The noise and vibration went away after I cleaned the snow and ice buildup under the windshield wipers - the trough between at the bottom of windshield. I opened the hood, it appears the cabin air intake is there, also the washer nozzles are there. Maybe, the car is trying really hard to melt...

    loud, vibrating heat pump

I also noticed, the loud vibrating noise only happens in normal driving mode. It doesn't happen in scheduled preconditioning, even though I set to the same temperature 25C

Winter driving impressions - First snow

The heat pump in my 2017 e-Golf makes a loud noise, I can definitely tell when it comes on. Is yours silent? I'm also in Canada.

    loud, vibrating heat pump

I love my e-golf, but in the cold weather, the heat pump makes loud noise, sometimes I can feel vibration through steering wheel. Is this normal? If I turn off climate control, the noise and vibration goes away. It is not constant, it seems to come on and off periodically. I set heat to 25C, and...

    Charging battery in cold weather?

My owner's manual does say that if leaving car parked in -27C or below temperature can freeze battery and cannot start electric motor, but does not say anything about not able to charge the battery. I guess, it's rare to see -27C temperature here, I try to charge it during the day when it is warm.

    Charging battery in cold weather?

I just got a delivery of my brand new 2017 e-golf! I am loving it! I just want to clarify some tips about preserving battery life. I recently came across this: https://electronics.stackexchange.com/questions/263036/why-charging-li-ion-batteries-in-cold-temperatures-would-harm-them It claims...
