Thanks for the info. Could you please give sources/ part numbers for those hold-down items? My full-size (and 41 psi) tire pushed down into place with very little bending of the rear panel in the recess! Happy with that.

OK! We now have tucked away in the rear spare tire indentation (without any cutting!) a 5th Ecopia EP422 Plus, on a 5Q0-601-027-BS-03C Wheel, plus a simple bottle jack sitting inside the spare wheel m(wrapped in bubble-wrap to avoid rattles). Only lost about 1.5 to 2 inches of floor height...

We were able to save the VW online manual (in Safari browser) as a WebArchive. Then loaded that into an iPad app (GoodReader) which accommodates many formats. Works great!
