Disappointing driving experience in 2019 e-Golf SE

It really depends where you come from and expectations... There are folks interested in hyper-miling and who see turns as something to be feared, or simply don't know better because they come from a Nissan or Hyundai some equally soul-killing vehicle and never experienced a better car. If you...

No I don't know about the black box but I'll tell you it is impossible for a black box to know I changed from a 16" wheel to a 18" wheel, there's no sensor attached to the wheel, best it can do is measure effort at the motor (which can be attributed to stickier rubber) or do a wheel rotation vs...

You asked the same question when I put sticky tires on the 2016. There were zero issues under warranty and zero issues upon return, and the car was accepted with the replacement non-eco tires... The person who took the car back told me they did not care what tire was on the car as long as it...

My limited experience with Michelin Pilot A/S 3+ tires

I did the AS3 on GTI sized wheels. 15% range penalty, but amazing handling and braking... a little more road noise too.

New lightweight 18s on my Egolf

Verdict is in: about 15% range loss on my mixed 45 mi commute (city, freeway, steep hills). I attribute that to the wider and stickier non green tires... Zero to unnoticeable acceleration loss. Much improved braking and handling (I attribute that to the lighter wheels and tire profile) I'm...

Ok, so I did my own experiment... My goal was to a) get rid of the Godawful stock wheels b) go 17 or 18 to get some turn in with less flex in the sidewall c) Have better braking, especially on wet surfaces or painted surfaces than the stock ecrapia, d) make the car look a little nicer. I...

New lightweight 18s on my Egolf

Absolutely. But that requires either new springs or cutting a coil and while I do want to buy the car, I want to play it safe and reversible until the lease is up and I do buy it. Right now I still have the option of returning it - in case VW comes out with an amazing new electric before next...

New lightweight 18s on my Egolf

That’s just me but I think the car looks immensely better now. The turn-in is now like a normal car, on ramps are fun again, traction happens with less spinning and braking is way superior. Downside: louder tire noise, cost.

New lightweight 18s on my Egolf

I decided to keep my car post lease because the 2019 range and features are perfect for my needs. Regardless, I was sick of looking at the Astana wheels on my previous 2016 and now this 2019, and feeling the molasses Ecopia sidewalls refusing to change direction and brake like crap... I finally...

    Squeaky Wheels and Rattling Vent

There's always one who assumes too much. Both broke at full stop on my brand new car when the passengers were playing with them or grabbing one getting out of the car. They're a crap little plastic hinge with a spring that is impossible to refit. I am shocked it's there's not a rash of issues...

Did you notice battery/range issues over time ?

Since I started this.... I should say that I returned the car at lease end and it did show a 10% drop in range overall. Also nobody gave a hoot about the Max performance tires I put on the car as a replacement to avoid the squealy braking. But I did it no quarters, the limited range of a gen 1...

    Squeaky Wheels and Rattling Vent

My 2019 did that also (the wheel). I recorded the sound on my phone, had the dealer listen (otherwise "can't reproduce"). They said something about cleaning the brakes on that side. Never came up again.... I also learned on a different topic that my 2 broken "Oh shit handles" are called "grab...

So glad that thread exists... I asked similar questions with my previous Egolf lease (2016) and was basically told to go hug a tree and that I bought the wrong car and was supposed to hypermile ;-) I am now on Egolf #2 (2019) with the same issues and wishes (but more power, noticeably more...

What’s best for the car (2 charging options)

Much appreciated, thanks ! I'll stick with my 100% then, works perfectly for me.

What’s best for the car (2 charging options)

I’m thinking I may keep my 2nd egolf at lease end because it’s so much better than my 2016 was, so I’d like to be “nicer” to it (1.5y to go). My 45 mi commute requires a charge every 2 days - to account for possible detours or urgent trips - if at 100% charge. I heard that it’s best for the...

    Carnet lying through its teeth

Pretty much all of the above is complete BS... (except the "locked" I guess...) That app is still not ready for prime time ;-)

    Carnet lying through its teeth

Ok thanks guys... Looking at another Car-net Alert on my phone *right now*, windows down. Funny... I'll jut delete the app, it was useless before and apparently still is. No a big deal on the plug, now that I figured out it takes a few seconds. Before on the 2016 I could just press unlock and...

    Carnet lying through its teeth

So I gave Car-net another chance with the 2019 Egolf and for the past three weeks several times a day, it is letting me know one or all the windows are down, or the car is unlocked and every time it’s been completely untrue. I’ve gone to it without keys - locked. Windows up... Not that I care...

    End of Lease Inspection

Same... Not a big deal at all.. I had the insurance coverage too but it wasn't even needed. They dinged me for a missing emissions sticker on the hood (must have fallen off, what emissions anyway?) for $50 but no charge due to lease insurance... When I picked up my 2019 recently, they warned...

    I'm back with a 2019 !

Brief update: the car indeed feels a little faster from 50 to 80 than the previous model. The torque feels essentially the same because it is tire limited anyway. And we all know the ecopias have the grip of wood :-) As far as driving aids go, there is a new warning if you’re too close to the...
