    Charging Door Won't Open

I had the same issue about 2 years into ownership. The dealer ended up having to replace the door as they broke it trying to open it.

    End of Lease Inspection

My end of lease inspection was no big deal. I even had two different brand tires and they didn't care. I then took the car back to the dealer and it was as if I hadn't had the inspection done. They went through the whole car, themselves.

    eGolf 30 month review

It's the car I regret selling. Stupid, simple fun. Big engine, rear wheel drive and stone simple. It had a fantastic interior and an understated look. Along that vein, I have returned to the land of the V8s, thus ending my BEV experiment. The eGolf was so affordable that I socked away enough...

    eGolf 30 month review

You are correct, it is more of a critique on society as a whole and I feel it's worth stating. I have watched the EV community drastically change in the last 30 months. In Dec 2015, charging stations were always available and there was a certain chivalry, for lack of a better term. We all knew...

    eGolf 30 month review

Another great point. When I go up the hill towards Auburn, I found that the eGold uses significanly more battery range...almost 3 to 1. A 15 mile drive will suck down over half the battery. While I get some of that back on the way down, it is nowhere near on par.

    eGolf 30 month review

The other point is I enjoy driving and the eGolf has just never scratched that itch. Offline acceleration is decent, but then it just falls flat on its face. Tesla has the right idea, but in the end, I'm not convinced BEV is the way of the future. Fuel Cell? Maybe.

    eGolf 30 month review

I picked up a good size piece of metal and had to replace the tire entirely. The slime would not do the job. To your point on etiquette, I've watched it go away rapidly. When I first got the eGolf, I didn't like that it locked the charge cable on the car. The people in the building were good...

    eGolf 30 month review

What a strange little car. The range today is actually better than when it was new. My commute changed, so I'm now surface streets instead of freeway, but I've had this new commute for over a year now and my two way average is about 4.2-4.4 m/KWh every day. I had the wall plug replaced once...

Stupid things that I learned after 22 months of ownership.

Try it in Eco or Eco+modes. 75mph and 55 mph, respectively. The car automatically switches you into Eco mode with about 20 miles of range left. You can override it back to standard mode until you hit a little less than 10 miles, then you are in Eco+ and there is no escape.

Stupid things that I learned after 22 months of ownership.

I have been made a snob. When I first got the car, I didn't care. I still don't care when an ICE parks in one of the compliance "clean air spots" at Target (it always seems to be a Honda Pilot). Those spots aren't tied to a charger, so it doesn't matter. My issue is wholly because charging for a...

Stupid things that I learned after 22 months of ownership.

This. Technically, the charging station spots at the airport say "electric Vehicle only". A PHEV isn't an EV, it's a hybrid. That aside, it is a matter of need, not convenience. BEV people feel the pain. They understand range anxiety. The struggle is real as we drive home and the car switches to...

Stupid things that I learned after 22 months of ownership.

I treat the car like an appliance. It just gets me to and from work. As a former performance car guy (Audi S5, GTO, Saab Aero, Saab SPG), I never really gave this little car a fair shot. Now, I'm finally paying attention. Here's what I've recently learned: - I have a CD player. It's in the...

    Real-life experience

22 months of ownership with my 2016 eGolf. Here are my findings: - how 'real life' is the range estimate on your car? The eGolf is rated at 201km. But realistically, does that mean 201km or 90% or 105%? I base this off miles. Feel free to convert. The stated range is 83 miles. I realistically...

    100 Mile Club

I'm taking this to heart. When I got home yesterday, I had gone 74 miles and had an indicated 29 miles left for an average of 5.0 mile/kWh. Then I ran my son to scouts and picked him up later. 2 trips of a little more than 3 miles each and my range was down to 16 miles, bringing the overall...

    100 Mile Club

I may accidently be giving this a go. Normally, my commute is a little less than 25 miles each way and I zip along in the carpool lane. I get home with an indicated 55-60 miles of range left (I charge at work). Yesterday, due to accidents and generally bad traffic, I was a few miles out from...

    3 months, 3,000 miles

First, a little background. Before leasing my eGolf, I was all ready to buy and Audi eTron. For me, the primary motivator was the HOV sticker (still worthwhile in the Sacramento Area). The green stickers were rapidly drying up and the continual delays in release (Oct 23 became sometime any day...
