Re: Slashed Underbody Shield

Yes F1 I think you are right about aero, and I think the felt helps absorb road noise. I guess I'm more concerned about damage to the battery, if the tear is superficial I probably won't bother replacing it. I'll put the car on ramps this weekend to see if there was any serious damage. I avoid the s...

Slashed Underbody Shield

My wife ran over something on the highway and the felt shield underneath the battery got slashed pretty badly. Not sure if it’s critical to replace, if so I can’t find it on any parts websites. Don’t even know what to call it. Any advice? B1D91720-B3A7-42FD-80CF-911F3C8D935F.jpeg 880E7791-BC69-456B-...

Re: eGolf as emergency power source

That’s the info I was looking for...I’ll only try it if I have exhausted my other batteries and all our food is about to spoil. In theory it shouldn’t be putting more load on the DC-DC converter than the max accessory load (Heat pump must draw a good amount of current) but...best case failure is a b...

eGolf as emergency power source

PG&E is threatening to shut off our power for the next five days to prevent their power lines from starting a firestorm, fast dry winds are predicted. I plan to keep our refrigerator and pond pump (oxygen for the fish) running with power from our van conversion and solar powered tool shed, but I onl...

Re: Charging fault, charging port locked and won't let go

Just had this issue with my eGolf. Was able to push the pin back, squirted it with some silicone spray. In fact, I gave the whole connector a blast, just to make it a little smoother to connect. Seems normal now, but not sure how long it will be before I get the call from my wife about how to unlock...

Re: 2018 CA HOV Tag processing time

My eGolf was rear-ended requiring a new bumper. I applied to DMV for replacement decals, I guess they will be white? Sent in the paperwork 2 weeks ago, DMV has returned nothing so far.

Re: Is there a 'play/pause' button?

It seems to insist on playing something. Kind of annoying that there is no setting to turn off autoplay. Someone posted a 10-minute blank track to iTunes, last I heard it's in the top 30 downloaded songs. When I found the article below, my car was playing the exact annoying song the author mentioned...

Re: Solar PV - Save Money & Shrink Carbon Footprint

I am considering the solar road as well, as our power is similarly expensive. But the solar plans (read: scams) are confusing as heck. I would consider buying a system outright and installing myself, but I don't think we would see the ROI before we sell the house. Financing is just another debt trap...

Re: Direct Heating Windshield Defroster

I dunno. My windshield heater works like a boss, it melts solid ice in a matter of seconds, and I never notice the little wires anymore. You do know that it doesn't turn on from the defroster button..you have to hit the icon in the touchscreen HVAC menu.

Are you saying the 2017 has the silver film?

Re: e-Golf SE Heater Range Penalty

I've noticed a significant range loss on cold mornings, probably about 10 miles. On a related note, the windshield heater works gangbusters. My windshield was covered solid in ice one morning, I turned on the windshield heater and it was 100% clear in about 10 seconds. I think the only way to turn i...
