Re: 2018 eGolf - Trailer hitch for bike rack (or roof rack)

I bought a hidden trailer hitch from eTrailer for my 2017 eGolf. I got it installed, and it didn't fit. Part of the back of the receiver protruded too much as the bumper could not be put back on properly: the eGolf has a pretty seamless plastic flashing that runs under the main bumper... and that i...

Re: Build Thread: Performance e-Golf

I will probably add some VW center caps, but very happy with this setup. Did you happen to weight the wheels before you mounted General Gmax AS-05? Typically, there's a discrepancy with an advertised weight https://konigwheels.com/wheels/main-line-wheels/runlite Could you snap a picture to show the...

Re: Build Thread: Performance e-Golf

You do know VW puts a black box in every one of their vehicles. Pretty much logs everything you do, parameter wise. Why are you lurking around on "Build Thread: Performance e-Golf" thread? Aren't you supposed to be drafting behind big trucks on the boulevard at 6.5 kWh, below the speed limit? Not e...

Re: charging to 90%

Charging the car to the needle full is the only proper way to get a full equalization charge among all the cells in the battery. Equalize balance recharging is important. Does the VW on-board charger only balance cells near 4.2V? This doesn't have to be true with Lithium batteries. A charger (not t...

Re: Did you notice battery/range issues over time ?

A recent SWAGE of battery capacity showed 19.6 kWh of usable battery remaining, where as when it was new, it was at 22.1 kWh. Did you use OBDeleven to extract the data? There's a relevant thread www.myvwegolf.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=12&t=564&start=30 but wanted to find if there's an alternative.

Re: Estimating Battery Degradation

I spent hours on https://insideevs.com, https://electrek.co and https://batteryuniversity.com/learn/article/how_to_prolong_lithium_based_batteries Some sources pointed to Jeff Dahn, a world class expert on Tesla's battery tech. The takeaways: From chemistry perspective, closest to 50% is still optim...

Re: Why spend over $600 for L2 chargers if $275 Tesla Connector is fine?

Yes. Okay, they cost ~$240. If you are willing to fork over ~$500 to make it work with a USA e-Golf, the Tesla mobile connector is a very flexible product. You can buy a 3.8 kW Amazing E station for only $220. It only provides 16 amps, but if you are planning on sleeping while charging, then it wil...

Re: Why spend over $600 for L2 chargers if $275 Tesla Connector is fine?

Tesla uses a proprietary connector in the USA, just like Apple does for their iPhone. You need to buy a ~$300 adapter (NOT made by Tesla, but only by third party companies) to make the USA Tesla charging station work with your e-golf (or any other brand of EV that is not a Tesla in the USA). Ever n...

Re: Why spend over $600 for L2 chargers if $275 Tesla Connector is fine?

This works great for teslas. Not so much for any other brand EV. You could get this setup and a Tesla Tap for ~$230 but then you are up near the price of the others you listed. What does that supposed to mean? :D You own Tesla charger and it doesn't work well for your e-Golf? And how are you doing ...
