Re: Changing Charging Port

Parts are probably very expensive. How are you also going to ensure software communication is correct for CCS if you manage to swap DCFC port?

Re: Id3

I get closer to 5 mi/kWh for much of my driving in the e-Golf. I would still take the larger pack even if it only got 4 mi/kWh, because of the much longer range, the pack cooling - there will be very little cell degradation even on long high speed trips in hot ambient temperatures - and over 100 kW ...

Re: Max amps at 120 volts?

Thanks for explanation. I have a Clipper Creek HCS-40 on a 50 amp circuit. While I could replace it with a power sharing EVSE, having the Neocharge would let me pull a total of 54 amps simultaneously (assuming 24 amps pulling off the 30 amp dryer circuit) as opposed to only 40 amps on the single cir...

Re: Max amps at 120 volts?

Yes, smart move getting the Neocharge. I am planning to get one myself one of these days...when my wife ditches the ICE car for a BEV. FYI, even if your panel is full, chances are you are not using the entire ampacity of the 200 amp service. You can replace full size breakers with mini breakers for ...

Re: ev-vin.blogspot.com

If you need to wait a year, you might just want to not look for at least 6 months. I continue to read about chip shortages causing new car delays that won't be solved for anywhere from 6 months to 1 year. I imagine once more inventory has built up, local dealers will have more incentive to offer lea...

Re: Id3

While I would love to get one, I doubt VW will bring it to the USA. If Mexico and Canada drivers have also been convinced to drive SUVs that they don't need, then VW will probably never bring it to North America.

Re: Electric motor.....

If you turn on anything that uses battery energy, range will drop since there is less energy subsequently available to drive the car. That is why cooling or heating car while plugged in to mains power helps extends range because battery energy is not sapped by HVAC. Makes sense?

Re: Electric motor.....

There already is a dedicated electric motor for A/C. Any ancillary device uses power and HVAC is probably the largest non-motive user of power in an EV. There is no around this situation other than turning off A/C. If you are really concerned then maybe you need a car with a larger battery pack, if ...

Re: Battery degradation

Strangely, the larger capacity pack for my car "only" lists for $22k. VW could have saved themselves some money if they gave your car more range.

Re: Unlocking charger port

I didn't design the car, so I'm only guessing here: 1. In Europe, Type 2 is the standard and the cable is owned by the driver. Even when charging is complete, it does not makes sense to unlock the cable because nobody wants their cable stolen. 2. VW got lazy and carried over the EU logic to all mark...
