Re: Recurrent wins NSF Grant to Study Battery Degradation in EVs

Congratulations! I no longer have car-net and currently estimate usable capacity by charging to full, driving pack to about 10-15% SoC, and use the car's efficiency data for the miles driven to estimate usable capacity. How will you provide a buyer with an estimate about battery pack degradation wit...

Re: Higher Mileage Buying Question

Good that it "lived" in a moderate climate. I don't think 27,000 miles is too high. Checking other local sales would give you more insight into a good price, and maybe there are cheaper cars. I don't know how you find out how many DCFC sessions the car saw - I have not found that data yet. Can you a...

Re: Egolf 2017 not charging through home 110c outlet

No, not enough juice. That is why the “smart” splitter only sends power to either your car or the dryer (never both at the same time), with the dryer getting priority.

Re: 2017 or 2019 battery?

Great question! No, no expiry date. If you take good care of a lithium ion battery, it can provide a useful life of several decades. It is my understanding the main causes of cell aging are: calendar aging, amount of cycling, DoD (Depth of Discharge) during cycling, storage SoC (State of Charge), an...

Re: Egolf 2017 not charging through home 110c outlet

Sounds good. Best of luck! I live in CA where it is common to have a dryer in the garage (in my case, right near the garage door, too). I can see it would be inconvenient if your dryer is not in your garage.

Re: Egolf 2017 not charging through home 110c outlet

Great to hear you found a properly wired, grounded circuit! You can not use the L1 EVSE that came with the car on a 240V circuit. You will need to purchase a 240V EVSE (Level 2 or L2) to charge your car at 240V. The included L1 EVSE charges at 1.2 kW but you could charge as quickly as 7 kW (240V, 30...

Re: Egolf 2017 not charging through home 110c outlet

The L1 EVSE you describe maxes out at 10 amps, and that’s already pretty slow, but you could certainly try charging at 5 amps. I doubt it will help, but you might as well try. As long as the electrician is at your house, you should also get a quote for a 240 V circuit (50 amp if your panel has capac...

Re: Egolf 2017 not charging through home 110c outlet

It is certainly possible there are no grounded circuits in your house, and then you would need an electrician to help. I bet you have a grounded circuit somewhere, but it may not be very convenient to charge your car.
