The second statement you make "In normal driving almost all braking is regen unless a panic stop." is only true if you keep your car in any of the regen modes available (D1, D2, D3 or B) and never use the brake pedal.

You do know that while not in any regen mode (like plain D) pressing on the brake pedal actually uses regen to slow the car? Right? The other modes are just settings to automatically apply regen so you can do one pedal driving.
