Pop in rear sunshades and splash guards

I have the sunshades, they're fairly easy to install and very easy to remove, a great option if you want something less permanent than window tint. Get lots of compliments from people asking where to get their own, only to be disappointed when I tell them they're OEM just for the Golf.

Portable chargers that use 5-15 AND something better?

Your best bet is the Tesla Gen 2 Mobile Connector modified or used with a J1772 adapter, I haven't found any native J1772 EVSE that's nearly as versatile. 5-15 and 14-50 adapters are included, and there's 6 others you can purchase. Here's a chart of all the available adapters: You can use the...

    Climate control while charging?

If you're using a Level 2 (AC) charger, you actually can't charge and use climate control simultaneously. Enabling climate control on a scheduled charge will actually shift the charging phase to finish ~30 min earlier and then activate climate control afterwards. You can use climate control...

    Chargers

I have this adapter and use it to charge my e-Golf for free using Tesla destination chargers, mostly at hotels.

Spring like noise at low speed?

Yes, I hear this all the time when braking at low speed, although I would describe it as more of a "gurgling" sound. I assumed it was normal but was wondering what it was, so thanks for the explanation.

DC fast charging the 2017 e-Golf twice, back to back

The cushion is nowhere near this much. In my experience charging the 35.8 kWh battery on my 2017, the "fuel gauge" encompasses around 34 kWh, which is about 95% of nominal capacity.

Which 240 EV charger should I buy ?

fwiw you can get an adapted instead of modified version of this, a TeslaTap adapter ($240) combined with a Tesla Gen 2 Mobile Connector ($300), which costs only slightly more overall but gives you the added benefit of being able to use Tesla destination chargers. I've been getting a lot of free...

    PDF owner's manual for 2017 e-Golf?

afaik this is not available yet. Would love to be proven wrong.

    Coasting

@Verkehr Thanks for the data! What equipment/app are you using to see that?

    Coasting

I seem to recall reading somewhere (maybe on this forum?) that the e-Golf actually recharges very slightly while coasting, although I don't remember how they were able to determine this.

Keep EV features without full Car-Net subscription

I believe the EV-specific features are free for 3 years with new vehicles, but I'm not sure what the situation is for used car purchasers. You can also do this through the car's in-dash interface, in the e-manager. In my experience, it's 100% more reliable than trying to do anything remotely...

    Trunk charger?

It sounds like you misinterpreted "trunk charger"; the included 120V charging cable is simply stored in the trunk, but it plugs into the car's only charge port above the rear right fender, same as any other charger. You can turn on the accessory mode while plugged in, but not the ignition, for...

    Direct Heating Windshield Defroster

It's so strange that they buried the control for this feature. Why is the button even labeled "max defrost" if it doesn't activate the most efficient defrosting method available?

    Max amperage of on-board charger?

So future-proofing aside, the e-Golf won't benefit from an EVSE rated for more than 30A? Good to know.

    Max amperage of on-board charger?

I know the wattage of the on-board charger is 7.2kW which means 30A at 240V but could it pull e.g. ~35A on a 208V circuit (assuming the EVSE is rated for it)? Or would it still be limited to 30A (and therefore ~6.2kW at 208V)?

Recommendation for higher amp 120V EVSE

The most you can continuously pull from a standard NEMA 5-15 outlet is 12A. In order to use a 16A charger you would need a NEMA 5-20 outlet (on a 20A circuit) which has a horizontal notch in one of the prongs...

    Range vs. temperature

They used a FleetCarma device which, as the name implies, seems to be available only to business customers. I just made another thread asking if anyone knows of consumer OBD loggers that can get useful data out of the e-Golf: http://www.myvwegolf.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=1457 EDIT: It...

    OBD data logger?

Does anyone use an OBD data logger with their e-Golf? I mean something that stays plugged in and gathers data over time as opposed to just using the port for diagnostics/mods. I used an Automatic Pro with my ICE which I absolutely loved, but it wasn't designed for EVs and doesn't work well with...

    Range vs. temperature

A Canadian VW employee posted this great chart to the e-Golf facebook group, of average range vs. temperature based on OBD data captured from a 2017 fleet car with ~10k miles of typical driving by ~100 different drivers. Overall trend is not surprising, but it's pretty incredible to see the over...

    Direct Heating Windshield Defroster

Source? Is this on the 2018? Hopefully it doesn't interfere with electronic toll devices which don't work through some metallized windshields.
