Are you sure that's what it does? I thought it made the rear wiper run once when you put the car in reverse while the front rain sensor is wet.

Any particular reason why? The Leaf folks have been doing this for years to their Panasonic EVSEs. There are even companies you can pay to do it to your charger. The in-car charger, the J1772 plug, relay, optoisolators, cabling, etc are all rated for 240V and this doesn't change the charge...

This sounds pretty unusual. I also have a 40A breaker on a 30A charger and have never had any issues with tripping. By chance, does your circuit breaker have an RCD/GFCI test button on it?

The test to see if it is an issue with the scheduled charging or programmed charge limit is to do connect the charger and then immediately hit the top "immediate charge" button. That will override the saved settings and charge to 100%.
