It is a big seller in Norway too, behind only Tesla.

I think Norway is an example of an advanced market very penetrated by EVs (and charging). With familiarity people overcome their range anxiety and realize they don't need 200+ mile ranges. I think nearly all two-car households in the US could get by with one car being a 75-100 mile range EV with no inconvenience.
I think the market for small/medium PHEVs is almost over (e.g. Volt). I expect they will continue to play a role in larger vehicles for some time though.
