I replaced my battery with a VW (Varta) AGM from the dealership and it did not require coding.

Unfortunately, the eGolf's utilize the latest anti-theft protocol which only authorized personnel (i.e. dealership) can access. You'll need to get it paired at the dealer. The VCDS will not help you.

Funny, yesterday visited a friend who has the same model and I verified the same behavior. That is, it latches but does not lock while the car is locked. In other words, I can disconnect the plug from the socket while the vehicle is locked.
Latching means audible click...
The moment that I push the black unlock button, the charging stops. In fact, this is a safety feature.
So no shock worry. I have verified this every day for the last 3 years.
Again the latching barb works and latches in the socket. It’s the locking pin that doesn’t.

Correct ... I too asked my local dealership to investigate why the heater does not work in certain temps. They opened up a VTA with VW engineering and the answer came back that the heater works when outside temps are less than 70 deg F.
