The EPA's rating system for EVs and other alternative-fuel vehicles, expressed as Miles per Gallon Equivalent (MPGe), represents the number of miles the vehicle can travel using a quantity of fuel with the same energy as a gallon of gasoline. The idea, says the EPA, is to allow a reasonable comparison between vehicles using different types of fuels.
Edmunds says: The EV market is heating up, giving consumers a wider choice of alternative-fuel vehicles.
