Noise in Reverse mode

My new e-Golf makes a slight noise when reversing. This noise is pretty noticeable & there's no such noise when i am moving forward. Is this normal?

What sort of noise? Brake squeal? Crunching sound? High pitch whine? Low pitch whine? Beeping?

I get brake squeal occasionally - I believe it is because the friction brakes don't get used much.

The noise is a crunching noise. I think I figured out the "issue".
I could hear the noise only when i was reversing on a slope - because i was activating the brake.

My driveway is on a slight incline, and when I reverse out I hear the same brief crunching noise. I assume it is a physical brake engaging/disengaging, but never looked into it further.
