What's most efficient. Drive in D or drive in B?

Some follow up thoughts: Basic hi-efficiency driving techniques still apply to my argument here; e.g., don’t accelerate more than you need to, use the brakes as sparingly as possible, etc. I am certainly not advocating (nor should anyone else!) that you should intentionally accelerate more than...

What's most efficient. Drive in D or drive in B?

@cove3: I don’t have any specifics on the algorithm VW uses to “mix” the braking forces- wish I did. But any car capable of regen employs some algorithm to mix the regen braking force with the mechanical force of the standard brakes. Some do this better than others (ever drive an early Prius...

$400 check from VW for car-net charge scheduling issue

I totally agree- VW should send a check to everyone- or, at least everyone who's tried and failed to schedule charging. I originally complained just by pushing the Car-Net button in the car and talking to a rep. The rep was very friendly, but had no idea about the issue or workarounds or...

Volt Owner thinking of getting an e-Golf

@GetOffYourGas: I thought the Volt drove pretty well too, but I like the feel of the VW better. Nothing scientific- just my "butt gauge" telling me that the eGolf handles a little better, and generally feels a little tighter all the way around. I feel a little more connected to the road in the...

$400 check from VW for car-net charge scheduling issue

Just got a $400 check from VW for making a stink about the charge-scheduling bug snafu. Anyone else get one? Anyone get a larger check? :) -JM

Volt Owner thinking of getting an e-Golf

I'm a former Volt owner, and there are definitely some things that my 2012 Volt did much better than my 2015 eGolf. Of course, the opposite is also true :) The Volt was much better at all of the charge scheduling features and mobile app integration. VW is way behind on this, but they should...

What's most efficient. Drive in D or drive in B?

B mode should almost always be more efficient than D, for the simple fact that in B, you’ll use the brakes less. “Coasting” doesn’t really earn you anything (in terms of efficiency). Let me explain: I think there’s a lot of misconception about what “coasting” while in D mode really is...

What's most efficient. Drive in D or drive in B?

I thought I’d weigh in with some real world numbers. I have a very consistent commute, which includes some surface streets, some highway, and one big hill in the middle. I’ve done the commute now a handful of times using the regen settings of B and D to record and compare the miles per kWh...

Do aftermarket wheels for e-Golf have an effect on range?

Has anyone out there replaced the stock wheels on their eGolf? The stock wheels are beyond fugly, imo... Setting aside any potential aesthetic debates, I'm wondering if anyone has noticed any impact on range by changing to a more conventional wheel design. I'm assuming that the stock wheels are...

    Suggestions to VW

@ formerdieselrumbler: You can get to the clock settings via the center console Menu button. Then use the touch screen to select Setup -> Time and Date. Choose Time Source = GPS, and enter your time zone and if you want DST. Hope that helps! -JM

    Suggestions to VW

@ formerdieselrumbler I'm away from the car right now, so detailed instructions will have to wait... I found the "GPS" setting for clock when browsing through the settings pages via the main console. IIRC I still had to choose the time zone (which seems odd, given that the setting is called GPS...

How can dash show more than 83 mi range remaining?

As others have mentioned, the range is not a fixed number- but the size of the battery pack is (disregarding, for argument's sake, the eventual degeneration of cells over time). The battery size is 24 kWh. VW estimates that you'll average 3.5 miles per kWh, giving you an effective range of...

    Suggestions to VW

I know these have been covered here and elsewhere, but please allow me to concur- and pile on a bit! - Charge scheduling. Seems his bug has been around for a while, so the dealerships should know about it. My dealer specifically showed me this feature, without telling me it didn't work (I'll...

VW lease price is $299 per month

Here's my recent lease deal from a SF Bay Area dealership: $2400 drive off (everything included; tax, first mo, etc.) $~330/mo ($299+tax) 36 mo, 10k mi/yr Sounds like I did ok, but maybe not great. They made me work for it :) Interesting to note that Mercedes offered exactly the same terms...
